Skier with red torch at dusk in Thredbo, New South Wales
Skiing with a bright red torch at dusk is a novel way to express joy at the start of the ski season. Building a snowman, or taking some alpine selfies, might be more suitable ways for everyday skiers to ring in the 2017 season. It’s not just any old year here at Thredbo, in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales. This weekend, Thredbo begins celebrating its 60th season with festive tree lights around the resort and village, and a new ’2037’ commemorative bell at the highest point reached by its ski lifts, which is 2,037 metres above sea level.
