The sun sets on Chicagohenge. Chicagohenge, USA
It's easy to lose touch with the natural cycles of the planet when you live in a concrete jungle. But, at least twice a year, the architecture in the US city of Chicago harmonises with the movements of the sun to create the phenomenon known as Chicagohenge.
The city’s skyscrapers frame the rising and setting sun perfectly during the spring and autumn equinox, when the northern and southern hemispheres receive an equal amount of sunlight. The sun rises and sets directly to the east and west on these days, perfectly framed by Chicago’s grid layout, which is aligned with the east-west cardinal directions on a compass. A modern-day Stonehenge?
