London is rich with history, and Westminster Abbey is no exception. Construction on the present-day church began in 1245, but its roots go all the way back to the 1060s. Coronations, royal weddings, and burials all took place on this sacred site. However, even with all we know about the church’s history, its exact origin remains unknown. One legend claims a young fisherman had a vision of Saint Peter near the site, and another claims a fictional 2nd-century British King founded the abbey. Regardless, no one can deny the church’s beauty. Its gothic-style architecture and elaborate design make it a crowning jewel of the city.
