Info. Cuverville Island
At about 1,000 kilometres from the tip of South America, Cuverville Island is closer to civilisation than most of Antarctica. As such, this small isle off the northward-jutting Antarctic Peninsula is popular with tourists to see some cool scenery. Visitors can also rest on the rocky beach with the locals – a few thousand gentoo penguins. The island supports a breeding colony of about 6,500 pairs of the penguins, the largest for this species on the Antarctic Peninsula.
