The island of flowers

We're looking down on Mainau, a unique flower island located on Lake Constance in south-west Germany. It is notable for its beautiful parks and gardens, where there is a stunning display of flowers and trees spread across the island's 45 hectares. Millions of flowers begin to bloom in the spring including tulips, daffodils, rhododendrons and roses. Other attractions on the island include a baroque church and palace, a palm house and an arboretum with about 250 different types of trees and shrubs. The island also boasts Germany's second largest butterfly house, which is home to approximately 120 different species of tropical butterflies from Africa, Asia, Central and South America.
