Dogon village in the Bandiagara region of Mali

These huts are part of a Dogon village in the Bandiagara Escarpment, located in the West African country of Mali. This region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been inhabited since at least the 3rd century BCE, most recently by the Dogon people. They arrived here in the 15th century and much of their culture has been preserved. The Dogon are known for their unique cliffside dwellings, religious ceremonies, and intricately carved wooden masks.
