Flowing through Bavaria. River deep, mountain high
The source of the Loisach river is in the Tyrolean municipality of Biberwier, Austria, but our photo shows the body of water flowing out of Lake Kochel on the edge of the Bavarian Alps in Germany. In the past, the 70-mile long river was used to transport gypsum, limestone and logs from the Alpine forests of the Werdenfelser Land region. Nowadays it's used for recreation, populated by kayakers, rafters and anglers. In the distance you’ll see the Sun setting over Heimgarten, a mountain rising almost 6,000 feet, which offers a scenic climb in the foothills and splendid views of the Bavarian Alps.
