Crimson-rumped toucanet in the Refugio Paz de Las Aves, Ecuador
A small patch of red quills on this small bird’s tail feathers contrasts against the deep green, gold and sometimes blue feathers on the rest of its body. Tourists can visit the Refugio Paz de Las Aves (Peace of the Birds Sanctuary), where this toucanet was photographed. The private nature reserve is in the foothills of the Andes in Ecuador and birdwatching is the number one activity here.
