One of the more recent additions to the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin is this Viking house. Roughly 340 square feet, the structure was hand-built in 2014 using 11th-century tools and represents what a typical Viking home looked like in this region. In search of new land and resources, Vikings from Scandinavia began raiding Irish villages around 795, sparking 200 years of hostilities. As the cultures assimilated, Viking houses like this were a common sight in Dublin 1,000 years ago.
