Welcome to the verdant slopes of magnificent Monte Vettore in central Italy. For some geographic perspective, we're about halfway down the 'boot' of Italy, perched near the high point of the Apennine Mountains. Nestled below is the Piano Grande, a vast, flat valley where photographers flock in June as wildflowers and lentil crops—a local delicacy—blossom beautifully. Those a little late to the party can trek up Monte Vettore for a peek, as the bloom lasts into July at higher elevations.
