Party in pink
The flamingo is a balanced bird—literally and figuratively. Not only does it sleep standing on one leg, it strikes that perfect mix of elegance and goofiness that makes it one of our most beloved avians.Flamingos come in six different species found all around the world. Most if not all the flamingos in this flamboyance (yes, that's what they call a group of flamingos) are Andean flamingos. They'll trawl the shallow lakes here in Bolivia and other high Andes countries throughout the summer, making snacks of small fish and microorganisms like diatoms. Each winter, these lakes evaporate into desiccated salt flats, leaving the birds high and dry—but no worries: Andean flamingos are migratory, able to travel hundreds of miles a day in search of a feast.
