The capital of Angola and home to a third of the country's people, Luanda is rapidly growing and modernizing. But some parts of this African metro area remain relatively undeveloped. Situated on a long sand spit not far from the city, Mussolo is a getaway enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. While the rough and windy Atlantic side of the spit is less visited, sheltered beaches on the bay side are popular for seaside dining, swimming, and nature viewing.
