One lake, three nations

The tripoint of North Macedonia, Albania, and Greece lies on the surface of Great Prespa Lake, the larger of two lofty, interconnected lakes that are among the biggest, highest, and oldest in the Balkans. While shared by three nations, Great and Little Prespa Lake have a wildlife profile all their own, hosting no fewer than nine endemic fish species. Other creatures thrive in this rich, remote environment as well, including a unique freshwater sponge and several varieties of migratory marine birds.
