Hill, dale, and Hjelledalen

This deep valley named Hjelledalen is just one example of the extreme topography you'll find in the county of Vestland. Centered around Norway's second city, Bergen, the county is carved with undulating fjords and winding valleys like this, bounded by steep and spectacular mountains. Hjelledalen lies just inland from the inner reaches of Nordfjorden: a 66-mile channel that nearly transects the whole county, ending not far from the Innlandet border.
