The tyrant's haunt
Designed by noted Bohemian architect Jan Santini Aichel, this skull-shaped cemetery comes complete with a scary story. Legend has it this town near the Czech Republic's center, Žďár nad Sázavou, was once governed by a tyrant named Ulrich. When he died, a wave of relief washed over the townsfolk—but even after they buried Ulrich here, his ghost continued to torment them. Only when Ulrich's grave was opened and filled with quicklime and poppy seeds did the hauntings end. It's said, though, that once as many years pass as there are seeds in Ulrich's coffin, his vengeful spirit will return.
