Tromsø aglow
Even when being upstaged by the aurora borealis, the streetlights of Tromsø see a lot of use each winter. One of the biggest cities above the Arctic Circle, the centuries-old Norwegian settlement is plunged into all-day darkness from November to January. Even still, the best time to see the aurora is at night—often multiple nights a week during this winter wonderland's peak viewing season.
