Crossing the Danube
We're seeing the sun set from the midpoint of the Margaret Bridge between Buda in the west and Pest in the east. Spanning the glassy Danube to link the two titular banks of Budapest, this second-oldest of the Hungarian capital's eight bridges (after the Széchenyi Chain Bridge) was built in 1876 from a design by Ernest Goüin. That name ring a bell? Probably not, but if it does, maybe you glanced it on another wrought-iron riverside landmark: He's one of the 72 French engineers and scientists whose names are etched in the Eiffel Tower.
