Marvelous macaws

The scarlet macaw, pictured here in Belize, can be found from southern Mexico to Bolivia. While it's disappeared from some places because of habitat destruction or capture for the pet trade, in most of its range it remains widespread. And not hard to spot: Distinguishable from parrots by their white or light-colored facial patches, macaws grow to almost three feet long if you include their trademark tail feathers. They can even be seen in some more northerly locales like Florida, where they're among several escaped exotic pet species to have established wild populations.
