We wanted to show you a picture of Japan's tallest mountain, but nature had other ideas. While Lake Shōji is one of the Fuji Five Lakes—each renowned for a unique, postcard-perfect view of Mount Fuji—misty conditions like this often obscure the famous peak. Still, the early-morning fog itself makes for a fine photo, and the calm, cool conditions also lend themselves to another popular pastime here: fishing. Lava flows from Fuji formed rocky outcrops that stick out at various spots on Lake Shōji, making fine perches for hopeful anglers.
