Llamas of a different color

If KISS needs a new mascot, we've found the right animal for the job—and she'd make a great roadie, too. This llama family, especially mama llama's 'face paint,' illustrates the varied colors these glammed-up camelids come in. About 22 shades, including white, black, and a spectrum of browns and grays, combine to create countless coat styles even within a single llama herd. This makes the llama overall less suited to wool production than its cousin the alpaca, which typically appears in one color per herd—but the llama's appeal comes with its multi-purpose nature. While not usually uniform in tone, llama wool still makes for fine, warm clothing, and in addition, the llamas' larger size makes them ideal livestock guardians and beasts of burden.
