Summertime at Kenai Fjords is the best time to see humpback whales in the waters off this national park. The pods that spend winter near Mexico and Hawaii often enjoy the warmer months here in the fjords and out in the open waters of Resurrection Bay, as well as other nearby locations. They’re drawn to the area to feed on the abundant krill, copepods and small fish. Whale watching tours are probably the best way to spot the gentle giants.
