Symbols of a fiery win. Vijayadashami

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is one of the most significant festivals in India and is celebrated following the Navratri festival. 'Vijayadashami' is a Sanskrit word that translates to 'Victory on the Tenth Day' symbolising the victorious return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana in Lanka.

Different regions of India observe varied forms of the celebration. Eastern states conclude the grand Durga Puja by marking their faces with vermilion. In northern and central states, the festival symbolises the victory of Lord Rama through the grand tradition of burning effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad. Another essential aspect of the festival can be seen in the worship of Goddess Saraswati along with weapons, tools and instruments in southern states. It's a gesture of gratitude for the things that help them earn their livelihood.
