Ankarokaroka canyon in Ankarafantsika National Park, Madagascar
Madagascar is known as the island home for numerous rare and unique species of plant and animal, to say nothing of the island’s otherworldly landscape. Today, Madagascar celebrates 56 years of independence from French colonial rule. This rugged turf is in the northwestern region of the island—Ankarafantsika National Park. The park predates Madagascar’s independence, having been established in 1927.
