Peveril Castle, Derbyshire, England
Among the green hills of Derbyshire, UK, stands Peveril Castle on a limestone outcrop. Once a medieval fortress, the ruins now overlook the village of Castleton in High Peak in north-central England. The construction of the fortification began shortly after the Norman conquest in the 11th century, although it wasn't completed until the 14th century. From the castle, we can enjoy views of Cave Dale—a ravine carved by glacial meltwater over many years. There are several smaller caves or disused lead mines within the dale's limestone walls. From hidden caverns to towering battlements, this corner of the Peak District is bursting with history and waiting to be explored!
