Petit Minou Lighthouse, Brittany, France
Even if its name is reminiscent of a small cat, its origin seems rather to come from the word ‘min’, which in Breton language means mouth, or ‘point’. In the plural, ‘min’ becomes ‘kitty’, hence this cute little name! The lighthouse is located on a rocky point called Petit-Minou, which pairs with that of Grand-Minou.
Located in line with the Portzic lighthouse, the Petit-Minou indicates the entrance to the harbour of Brest. It has been very useful since its construction in 1948, not only to guide sailors, but also to protect the entrance to the Brest gully. Today it is above all a place that we can visit to enjoy its magnificent view and the nearby beaches that are very popular with surfers.
