Red fox in Denali National Park and Preserve, Alaska
Most visitors to Denali National Park and Preserve come with a checklist for the ‘big five’ mammals that live here: Grizzly bears, caribou, moose, wolves, and Dall sheep. Yet the red fox population in the park and preserve’s 6 million acres of wild terrain is also worth a look. This time of year, the kits are beginning to venture out of the den while mom and dad keep an eye out for predators and venture off to hunt for hares, voles, and other rodents that provide the bulk of the red fox’s diet.
