Grand Canyon
Today we're at a stormy Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, United States. The park's central feature is the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, a gorge carved by the Colorado River that attracts millions of visitors each year. The steep-sided canyon is 446 kilometres long, up to 29 kilometres wide and has a depth of over 1,800 metres.
In summertime, intense thunderstorms, known as monsoons, can strike this area. In the Grand Canyon and other parts of the Colorado Plateau’s high desert, monsoon season is the months of July, August and September, when there is potential for torrential rains, frequent lightning and sudden flash floods.
