Wilson Peak seen from Alta, a ghost town in Colorado
With a view like this, you may wonder why people ever left this place, rendering it a ghost town. Still, the expansion of the American West left more than a few abandoned settlements in its wake. Here in southwestern Colorado, the town of Alta was part of the silver mining boom. But unlike nearby Telluride, this location was simply evacuated after the boom turned bust. This incredible view of Wilson Peak and the surrounding wilderness are now the ghost town’s chief bounty.
