Info. Polar bears
Known as the ‘polar bear capital of the world’, the town of Churchill in northern Manitoba is famous for these mighty creatures. Each year, about a thousand polar bears gather here on the shores of Canada's Hudson Bay, outnumbering human residents. When the water freezes, the animals walk across the ice to hunt seals during the winter months. Polar bears are well adapted to living on ice. Their paws are like snowshoes and covered with fur to prevent slipping. They have two layers of fur to stay warm, and their white coat is a perfect camouflage to blend into their environment.
