Though the amusement parks have defined Coney Island, the peninsula is home to a thriving neighbourhood, in addition to the seaside hotels and resorts that have kept Coney Island going for decades. A variety of amusement parks have come and gone, but certain attractions that first opened early in the 20th century, such as the Wonder Wheel, The Cyclone, and the Parachute Jump, are not just standing, but are still in operation.
