Harvest season is here!
British Columbia is among the world's largest cranberry providers with the regional cranberry harvest comprising around 12 percent of North America's yield. During harvest season – which runs from September to early November – the vineyards are intentionally flooded with about 25 centimetres of water to be able to pull the berries apart from the vines. As water is raised, the farmers move the cranberries into a corner of the bog in order to pump them out. They are then cleansed in clear water, separated from debris and sent over to processing facilities. Needless to say, all this cranberry talk has made us crave some cranberry pie.
