Spectators wearing hats at Wimbledon in 2017
We take our hats off to these superfans, who are dressed to impress at Wimbledon, a district of London, where the final day of the British portion of professional tennis’ Grand Slam series is taking place. Look closely at their ace headgear and you'll notice the brims have been decorated with strawberries and cream. The English dessert has been a Wimbledon tradition since the inaugural tournament in 1877. According to historians, the sweet treat was created by Thomas Wolsey – an extremely powerful figure in the court of Henry VIII of England – who first served strawberries and cream at a banquet in 1509.
