Info. A bluethroat bird singing in a field
The bird chirping on our homepage is called a bluethroat, a small bird similar in size to a robin. It is common across Europe and Asia but can also be found in Alaska in North America. Like most birds, males are more colourful than females. The males have a bright blue throat, with stripes of black, white and chestnut below. Females display fainter colours, sometimes lacking blue entirely. Bluethroats like to stay hidden, but they are easier to see when out singing like our friend today. They eat insects, caterpillars and berries.
