While Orchha town was founded in 1531, various rulers added buildings to the palace-fort over the years. Numerous cenotaphs or ‘chhatris’ dot the vicinity of the fort, just off the Betwa river on a seasonal island. With Gwalior Airport about 150 kilometres away, and Kanpur 250 kilometres, it might be more convenient to take a train to Orchha station, or the Jhansi railway station just about 15 kilometres away, if you plan to visit.
