Swiss bliss
Looking to get off the beaten path? That can be tricky here in Switzerland, where hardy mountain folk have beaten paths for millennia. But this quiet spot in the nation's northeast may be your best shot. Home to a little more than 16,000 people, Appenzell Innerrhoden is the least populous of Switzerland's 26 cantons. Sure, the name may be a seven-syllable mouthful—but that's just as well, because its beauty is sure to leave you speechless. (Or at least more inclined to yodel than speak.)
