A family vacation?
Humpback whales are world travelers without peer, just as comfortable swimming the stormy open ocean as sheltering in a tropical cove. Or in this case, one that's the opposite of tropical, carved right out of a Greenlandic iceberg. Here to check out the krill situation and maybe chill a while, this humpback calf was probably welcomed into warm southern waters during the previous winter. After a long journey north with its mother and pod, the fresh-faced cetacean is getting acquainted with the group's summer feeding spots, where they'll all bulk up with blubber until winter sends them packing back to the tropics.
