A groovy getaway

Perhaps the group of hippies that settled this Sardinian cove in the 1960s named it the Valle della Luna, or Valley of the Moon, as a nod to the then-raging Space Race. (Or could it have been inspired by some other out-of-this-world trip?) It sure wasn't referencing the bright blue waves or green shrubbery—though the dust-toned stones around here have a certain lunar character. In any case, the moon commune proved persistent, populating the cove's nooks and crannies well into the 2020s—and their spaced-out name for the place stuck.
