Among flying birds, the Australian Pelican definitely punches with the heavyweight class, with the biggest males reaching up to 28 pounds. This Down Under pelican variety also boasts a humongous honker, holding the record among all birds for longest bill—the proboscis that won top prize measured at 20 inches long. The bulky beak is a tool of the bird's trade: Like other pelicans, Aussies use the giant pouch on their bill for fishing, either diving to scoop up prey or using their pouch as a sort of dragnet, trawling for fish and crustaceans while wading the shallows.
