This bridge's everyday name implies the existence of another—the Penang Second Bridge shown here aglow at twilight is indeed the younger of two major bridges serving Penang Island. One category where it's not second is length, stretching about 15 miles including 10 over open water. That's almost 7 miles longer than the original Penang Bridge, making the Second Bridge the longest span in Malaysia. And it carries a lengthy official name to match: the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge.
