An Arctic archipelago
At any time of the year, the Lofoten archipelago is a fantastic panorama of craggy peaks, steep cliffs, scattered islands, and gem-like water. The scene gets even more unearthly when autumn and the first snows arrive. Cod fishing is still a key industry here in the Lofoten area of northwestern Norway, but tourism is a growing trade, even after the summer crowds have departed. A series of bridges (one of which is seen in our image) connect the area's small, isolated fishing villages, and they also help visitors explore this extraordinary landscape no matter the season.
