An avian angler

Equipped with sleek, sharp beaks great for spearing or plucking up prey, the bird family called kingfishers lives up to its name. But that prey doesn't always come from the water: In fact, many kingfisher species are spread over a wide range of biomes both wet and dry, often relying more on bugs and worms than a seafood diet. This blue-breasted kingfisher was spotted in the Gambia, a river-centric country where surf and turf are both on the menu.
