Moor to love
As you may have guessed from the name, the region of Exmoor in southwest England is known for its expansive moorlands. Besides its signature heaths, Exmoor contains blanket bogs and ancient woodlands within its more than 18,000 acres. And as shown in our image, Exmoor incudes land long settled and cultivated—here we see fields and houses on a ridge overlooking Porlock Bay. This area is part of Exmoor's 267 square miles set aside in 1954 as a national park. Folks have long liked living in the Exmoor area—it's been populated since at least the Mesolithic era.
