The comedian Mitch Hedberg said, 'Rice is great if you're really hungry and want to eat 2,000 of something.' The northern tamandua holds an even more extreme dining philosophy regarding ants and termites, slurping up to 9,000 of the six-legged skitterers per day. While its habitat here in the rainforest of Costa Rica is rife with puny prey, the tamandua in our photo is just a baby, so putting up the big numbers will have to wait a few years.
