Piazza Maggiore, Bologna, Italy

Nestled in the heart of Bologna, Piazza Maggiore, featured in today's image, is more than just a square—it's the soul of the city. Established way back in the 13th century, this iconic square was designed to serve as the heart of Bologna's social and political life.

Surrounding the square is stunning medieval architecture. To the north, you'll find the Palazzo del Podestà and its historic bell tower, the Torre dell'Arengo. To the west of the palace stands Palazzo d'Accursio, serving as the city hall and a museum. The Palazzo dei Notai, located to the southwest, was the former notaries' guild. The Basilica of San Petronio, situated to the southeast, is the Duomo of Bologna. Finally, the Palazzo dei Banchi, on the eastern side, was the former banking centre. Its rich history and vibrant culture make it a must-visit destination.
