Sorry fellas, you're not the right species for Groundhog Day. Groundhogs are Marmota monax while alpine marmots are Marmota marmota, which live near the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austria. That's nowhere near western Pennsylvania, where the groundhog known as “Punxsutawney Phil” will emerge and reveal if they’re due for six more weeks of winter there. Our three alpine marmots should probably get back to hibernating—something they do for as long as nine months.
