Kauehi is an atoll of about 200 inhabitants within the Tuamotu archipelago in French Polynesia. Located 450 kilometers from Tahiti, this small atoll has 320 square kilometers of lagoon and 16 square kilometers of land. People live on copra, the dried pulp of coconut. In addition, Kauehi is home to an endangered species of wading bird, the Tuamotu Sandpiper or Tuamotu Titi.

If you want to visit this atoll, you need to have a lot of patience! There is only one flight a week from Papeete, and only one tourist accommodation available. Kauehi is one of seven atolls in Fakarava District classified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
