Info. Cittadella on the island of Gozo, Malta
That mighty fortress at the top of the hill is called the Cittadella – it's a small fortified town in the centre of Gozo, the second-largest island in the Maltese archipelago (after the island of Malta itself). Towering high above Victoria, the capital city of Gozo, the Cittadella rises steeply above the surrounding countryside and can be seen from almost the whole island. The area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. There are several historic buildings located within the walls of the Cittadella, including a magnificent baroque cathedral dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, the law courts, an old prison, chapels and museums.
