Greater snow geese at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, New York, USA
Every traveller needs a place to rest from time to time. In the case of the snow goose, that place needs to be very large. Snow geese travel in flocks of hundreds, sometimes thousands, as they journey north to their springtime breeding grounds in the Arctic tundra. They stop along the way to rest and forage, relying on places like New York’s Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, where our homepage image was photographed.
