A cottage full of stories. Anne Hathaway's cottage, Stratford-upon-Avon, England
Today's image shows Anne Hathaway's cottage in Stratford‑upon‑Avon, England, the childhood home of Shakespeare's future wife. This 15th-century thatched cottage, now preserved as a museum, offers a rare glimpse into the domestic world that surrounded the young playwright.
It has stood for over 500 years with much of its original structure intact. Inside, low timber beams and historic furnishings reflect rural life of the time, while outside, the gardens bloom with heritage plants, fruit trees and traditional hedgerows. Many of the flowers are grown using methods associated with the Tudor period, making the space feel less curated and more lived-in.
The cottage is often called romantic, but its real charm lies in its simplicity—a former working farmhouse turned time capsule. It's less about grand history and more about everyday life, preserved carefully, one beam and blossom at a time.
