Hohenzollern Castle near Stuttgart, Germany
That’s a long walk if you forgot your wallet or purse. The hills outside Stuttgart, Germany, are home to numerous castles, many built and rebuilt over the centuries as financial ruin, war and the ravages of time have forced the property owners to undertake maintenance on a scale that lets the rest of us feel a bit less burdened by our own home repairs. This is the third castle built on the mountain, also called Hohenzollern, and was completed in 1867. Today it’s a museum open to the public.
